How do you achieve a top score in Google PageSpeed Insights?
Why is it so important that your website has optimal speed? Google values websites that are designed for the visitor's convenience. Speed plays a major role in this convenience, because the visitor is not waiting (literally and figuratively) for a long loading time. The visitor (subconsciously) values this, and so does Google. Read on and find out how to get a super good score in Google Pagespeed Insights!

Google Pagespeed Insights, how does it work?
With Google Pagespeed you measure the speed of a website, on mobile and desktop. This is reflected in a score of maximum 100/100 (and minimum 0/100). Does this automatically mean that your website is not super-fast if it does not achieve 100/100 in Google? We wouldn't necessarily say so: this tool is focused on Google's standards and thus really a Google Insight (and not a general insight). A slightly lower value does not always automatically mean that the speed your website is slow, and vice versa, a super high value does not always mean it is fast either. So we want to stress that these are Google's standards, which (if you do comply with them) can therefore help you achieve a high score in Google.

5 tips for high website speed
With the 5 tips below, you can increase the speed of your website and therefore its ranking in Google.
1. Arrange reliable hosting for your website
To begin with, you need a solid foundation to ensure your website runs at optimal speed. A solid foundation starts with reliable web hosting. All websites run various components that affect loading times. If your hosting has enough processing power, there’s sufficient capacity to ensure your website runs smoothly. Web hosting that uses shared hosting, for example, is slower: here, you share a server with many others, so you have less capacity, which increases your loading time.
2. Optimise content above the fold
When a new visitor lands on your website, he immediately sees the first part of your homepage. This content is thus immediately visible, without any scrolling. We also call this content 'above the fold'. Google wants visitors to immediately understand your website and get started, so it is important to construct this content well.
What does this have to do with your speed? Because this content plays such a big role in the subsequent steps taken by the visitor on your website, you need to ensure that the loading time here is as low as possible. You achieve this through good structure and HTML. Make sure the data above the fold is reduced as much as possible. Make sure the content above the fold comes into view first, before the other parts are loaded.
Is coding and HTML a mystery to you? Then we recommend having your website made in London by Monkey Vision. For us, code and HTML is a daily activity.
3. Reduce code as much as possible
The previous tip applies especially to the content above the fold, but it is also advisable to reduce the code in your overall website as much as possible. A website with all kinds of fancy gimmicks is a nice calling card, but Google is less of a fan of it. What does Google do love? Clear compact websites! We don't mean that your website shouldn't have any fancy gadgets, but rather that you ditch as much superfluous code as possible. With compact code, you ensure better speed of your website.
Reduce the CSS, HTML and JavaScript on your website and remove excess formatting. No idea where to start? If you let Monkey Vision create your website in London, we'll do it for you!
4. Optimise images and you optimise the speed of your website
When it comes to images, you can make big gains for the speed of your website. Go through all the images on your website and reduce their size as much as possible. Try not to make your images larger than 300 kb, but don't make them smaller than 100kb either. This way, your images will load quickly, but will also still appear nicely fullscreen.
Good to know: jpg images are smaller than png images! At Monkey Vision , of course, we knew this a long time ago, let us make your website in London and we will ensure optimal speed.
5. Reduce the size of your files for lower latency
We keep pace with shrinking. The browser in which your website is viewed sends a request to the server for each file to be loaded. Suppose your website consists of hundreds of large files, the communication between the browser and your server takes a very long time. And long communication means long loading time, so the speed of your website is low. So reduce your files where possible and merge them, that will make Google and your visitor very happy!
Website design and speed optimisation
We have given you some tips to optimise the speed of your website. But, this is not all. There is much more to it, such as removing render blocking and implementing browser caching... Quite a mouthful! Do terms like these make you dizzy and would you rather outsource this? Having a website created by Monkey Vision will take all this out of your hands!
