A favi-wattes? A favicon. The name may not seem immediately familiar to you, but we're sure you've seen them before. A favicon is the icon you see in the tab in your browser when you visit a website. It is often the logo or part of the logo of the company the website belongs to. Nowadays, a favicon is used not only in the tab but also, for example, when you have added a page to your favourites or in the search results on Google.

OK, but why is a favicon so important?
When you pull your company's branding through everywhere, you create recognition. Your website is one of the many contact moments between your company and the customer. That's why it's good to have the favicon match your branding. If you do not set a favicon for your website, a standard browser symbol will appear here. If you have a WordPress website, the WordPress favicon will appear here. That doesn't look very professional and that's a shame!
A favicon also contributes to ease of use through this recognition. If you have several tabs open, the favicon makes it easy to find the page you are looking for. The recognisable icon tells you which tab to click immediately, without having to read the text. These two reasons make it important to add a favicon. You also like to be able to find a web page quickly, don't you?
Creating a favicon, here's how to do it!
You don't have to be a graphic designer to create a favicon. There are many (free) tools online that you can make use of. With these generators, you can have created a favicon that suits your website in as little as 15 minutes. Just upload your logo and the programme will do the rest. Do you have experience with Photoshop? Then you can create a favicon in Photoshop too. Just keep in mind that Photoshop does not support 'ico' files. Here is the plug-in from Telegraphics for. Favicon ready? Add it!
Adding a favicon to a WordPress website is quite easy by using the WordPress Customiser. Here you can download an image and crop it to set it as favicon. All you need is an image of at least 512 x 512 pixels.
Follow the steps below and you can easily set your favicon yourself:
Step 1: Log into the WordPress environment.
Step 2: In your dashboard, go to Display and then to Customiser.
Step 3: Go to the tab Site identity.
Step 4: At the bottom you will find the button Select site icon. Click here.
Step 5: Next, add the image to the WordPress media library that appears in your image.
Step 6: Select the image and crop it if necessary.
Step 7: Click on Publish And that's it!
